Hebrew for Parents
Dear Parents,
The sheets available to you on this website are my response to the parents meeting right before Yom Kippur. The parents who attended asked for materials that would give them the pronunciations of the words their kids are learning.
If you wish, you can download the sheets for your child’s grade, and study with them or just support them more knowledgeably – but don’t be surprised if they teach you something!
If you have any questions or suggestions, I’d be happy to discuss my favorite topic with you any time via my email address: zev.bar-Lev@sdsu.edu. Put “HEBREW QUESTION” IN CAPS in the subject line so I notice it among all the spam I get.
The most important thing is your support for your children’s learning. But if you are interested in learning a little speaking for yourself, you can do so – especially with the help of the sample sentences given with each sheet. The method lends itself (it more or less guarantees) to learning simple speaking in “mini-Hebrew.”
Don’t worry about possible mistakes: no one speaks perfectly in a new language or in their native language either! If you want to fill out your knowledge, you could download Level 0 (and even 1) for the most basic words that your child probably knows well already.
Good luck!
Zev bar-Lev
