Join us as we welcome ShabbatFriday Night Services

Kabbalat Shabbat Services – 6:15 p.m.

Welcome the Sabbath arm-in-arm in our beautifully refurbished Silverman Sanctuary. Services are followed by a festive oneg Shabbat offering everyone an opportunity to socialize. We have a variety of Kabbalat Shabbat programs each month which include:

Simcha Shabbat

Simcha Shabbat services are held on the first Friday of each month. A special shmooze time begins at 6:00 p.m. and includes a healthy snack. At this child-friendly abbreviated service, beginning at 6:30 p.m., children celebrating a birthday that month are acknowledged and receive a special blessing. We also enjoy hearing about any other happy news; engagements, new home or job, graduation, etc. At the oneg Shabbat following the service, a special treat is always on hand to enjoy. Every month has a special theme to help get you in the spirit. Get all the details in our Coming Events announcements.

Shir Chadash Shabbat

Shir Chadash, featuring Tifereth Israel Synagogue’s new Shir Chadash Band, is the newest addition to our Shabbat programming. Those who have already joined us know first-hand how much this musical ensemble has added to our Kabbalat Shabbat service. Shir Chadash will accompany Kabbalat Shabbat services on the third (usually) Friday of each month.

Pray at the Park

On select dates during the summer months, family and friends gather for special outdoor services held at Tifereth Israel. Guests will gather on the grassy area back by our schools to enjoy the summer breezes and the beautiful backdrop of nature. Following the service, the children will enjoy our Shekhter Family Gan Yeladim (Children’s Park) playground. Everyone is encouraged to bring a dairy picnic Shabbat dinner, enough for you and maybe some to share, blankets and lawn chairs so we can spread out and enjoy the beautiful and relaxed atmosphere. Look for specifics in our Coming Events announcements or by checking out our online calendar.

Call for Participation: Torah, Haftarah and Megillot Reading

Tifereth Israel Synagogue always encourages Torah and Haftarah readers at all levels, young and old, expert and novice. We offer tutoring for Torah, Haftarah, Yamim Noraim (High Holy Days) and Megillot. If you have the desire to learn to lein, you might just bring out your inner Ba’al Koreh. Even occasional Torah reading is not only a great mitzvah, but gives you a great sense of accomplishment as a much-needed participant in our services.

If you’re itching to read your old Bar or Bat Mitzvah part, please contact our office at 619 697-6001 or by email at torahreaders@tiferethisrael.com. You will be contacted with the date and whatever materials you need to refresh your skills.

Sponsoring Oneg Shabbat or Kiddush

If you are celebrating a simcha — a wedding, a new baby, a birthday, an anniversary, or some other joyous event — consider sponsoring a Shabbat Morning Kiddush. Sisterhood can help you with the details. Contact the office for more information by email or by calling 619 697-6001.
