We are proud to present the award-winning documentary Between Iraq an= d a Hard Place. When our military personnel return home, do they return= the same? Of course not. As a community, we hope that the effects of war c= an be somehow diminished to allow these men and women to heal. But what can= we do?

The evening will begin with a wine and cheese reception. The film will b= e shown at 8\:30 p.m., followed by a panel discussion which will include pas= t and present military personnel. Prior to our Selichot Service at 11\:00 p.= m., refreshments will be served.

Between Iraq and A Hard Place explores the effect of war on indiv= idual soldiers and what form help and support might take. If we can underst= and what our sons and daughters of war feel and fear, we can better know ho= w to help them.

Lance Corporal Luke Smentkowski of the USMC had the forethought on the f= irst day of the Iraq invasion to turn on a small hand held tape recorder. W= hat he captured on tape is powerful and thought provoking. This recording w= as the impetus for Between Iraq and A Hard Place.

Along with segments of this recording, the film contains personal video = footage and still pictures of the Marines who are the subject of this docum= entary. This unfiltered footage provides an up close and personal look at d= aily life in war. The viewer will feel as though they have been given a pri= vate look into the lives of these ordinary Marines who have performed extra= ordinary acts of bravery in the name of God and Country.

Certain events happen in war and a Marine'\;s life is changed. Our tro= ops come home from war and we welcome them. We have bumper stickers and rib= bon magnets on our cars. If you ask anyone, they will likely say, "\;Yes= , I support the troops."\; If you ask them if they think they are doing = enough, they will likely say, "\;no."\; No one wants to admit it, but= in this country, many of us don'\;t really know how to support our troop= s. There can be a sense of guilt if we oppose the war, then say the words, = "\;I support you for what you did in Iraq."\;

It is a difficult juxtaposition to oppose the war and support the troops= . Yet even the most vocal opponents of the War in Iraq will likely feel sym= pathy for the them.

We feel sorry for our young men and women who return\; for the price they= had to pay. This is not what our troops want us to feel. They want us to b= e proud of them for supporting our country. Different support will be given= to a Marine or Soldier if we feel sorry for them than the support that we = will give if we are proud of them. This film will make you feel proud of ou= r young men and women who serve.

Between Iraq and A Hard Place doesn'\;t provide all the answers= as to how to support the troops, but the viewer will gain new insight as t= o what our Marine'\;s really experiences and feel during war and upon ret= urn.
