Jewish education is a vital component in our children's lives. Abraham Ratner Torah School aims to instill a positive Jewish identity, by connecting our children to the community and providing a strong foundation that will help guide them into adulthood. Formed in 1979 by Abraham Ratner, we are one of the most deeply-rooted congregational schools in San Diego.

When your child steps into our school, he/she will gain knowledge of Judaism and Hebrew, awareness of performing mitzvot, and a lifetime of Jewish friendships and memories.

Torah School BannerOur curriculum includes:

  • Jewish History and Torah, helping to connect the students to our heritage and making history come to life. Relating the past to the present allows students to understand the value of our past and how it relates to the present and future.
  • Our Hebrew Language Program, developed especially for our school by Professor Zev Bar-Lev, is introduced to the students starting in Kindergarten and adapted to the level of each child.
  • Our Hands-on B'nai Mitzvah Program in 7th grade is developed as to allow students to actively participate individually as well as in a group setting. In addition to their regular studies, students are engaged in discussions with the Rabbi, actively participate in a variety of tikun olam projects, create their own tallit to be worn at Torah School graduation and future events, and more. All of this enhances their b'nai mitzvah training and overall experience.
  • Social and Cultural Experiences. Students also socialize with their peers and create lasting Jewish friendships. To enrich Jewish memories, students see learning as an active, living component of our lives through art and music, discussions with Rabbi Rosenthal, weekly prayers and field trips.
  • Connection to Israel. Students engage in discussions, activities and special projects that will connect them to Israel that is not only a country of our ancestors, but a place of history, rich culture and modern technology.
  • Family Education. To extend Jewish education to homes, we hold several family programs where the students, and parents, learn together by participating in hands on activities.
  • Our Staff. We are proud to have an incredible teaching staff that is dedicated to creative and exciting learning. Several of our teachers have been awarded with pedagogic awards for their dedication and commitment to Jewish Education.
