Call for Participation: Torah, Haftarah and Megillot Reading
Tifereth Israel Synagogue always encourages Torah and Haftarah readers at all levels, young and old, expert and novice. We offer a trope class on Sundays throughout the year (consult the office for times and dates). We also offer tutoring for Torah, Haftarah, Yamim Noraim (High Holy Days) and Megillot. If you have the desire to learn to lein, you might just bring out your inner Ba'al Koreh. Even occasional Torah reading is not only a great mitzvah, but gives you a great sense of accomplishment as a much-needed participant in our services. If you're itching to read your old Bar or Bat Mitzvah part, please contact our office at 619 697-6001 or by email at admin@tiferethisrael.com or Ritual Vice President who can give you the date and whatever materials you need to refresh your skills.
Midrash Shabbat
Midrash Shabbat is a "Light Lunch and Learn" program that takes place immediately after shacharit morning services one Shabbat each month. It is a a great opportunity to get a taste of a broad range of Jewish educational topics. Invited speakers include our own Rabbi Rosenthal along with various biblical scholars and educators from the San Diego Jewish Community. The speakers provide an interactive discussion on a topic of their choice. Two past discussion topics included "What Makes Wine Kosher?" and "Jewish Education: The Great Equalizer." Midrash Shabbat is listed on our events calendar.
Midrash Shabbat is funded in part by the Ritual Committee, the Aaron S. Gold Institute of Jewish Studies, and patrons like you. If you would like to sponsor a future Midrash Shabbat, please contact the office by calling 619 697-6001 or email tifereth@tiferethisrael.com.
Tifereth Israel's weekday morning Shacharit service is held Monday through Friday at 7:30 a.m. and on Sundays, weekday Yom Tov, and secular holidays at 8:30 a.m. in the Goodman Chapel.
Tifereth Israel has the honor of being the only Conservative shul in San Diego that maintains a consistent daily morning minyan (the minimum of ten Jewish adults required for a full public worship service). We are continuing a tradition that dates back to our earliest years as a congregation.
Mr. I. Frank, who has been on a visit to Los Angeles, has returned to again take up his position as one of the ‘hustlers’ for the congregation. Mr. Frank has been one of the most active workers from the start and has not relaxed his interest — it will have to be below zero in San Diego when Bro. Frank does not succeed in making up a ‘minyan,’ as he tells every man he is the last one needed.

Our minyan is egalitarian and welcoming. Membership in Tifereth Israel is not required to attend. All are welcome, especially those in the community wishing to say Kaddish for Yahrzeit for a loved one. Torah readers are encouraged to join us and read Torah on Mondays, Thursdays, and Yom Tov.
A complementary bagel breakfast follows each morning Minyan in the Cohen Social Hall.

The High Holy Days is always a busy season. Click here to read the message from our President during the 2007 holidays. It is just a sampling of what Tifereth Israel Synagogue has to offer to help you have a meaningful and enjoyable holiday experience. Our sanctuary and social hall are designed to accommodate the larger numbers of congregants who attend services on Rosh Hashanah and Yom Kippur. Tickets to High Holy Days are included in membership but are available to the community at large who wish to join us.
We will be posting information about the 2008 High Holy Days as soon as it becomes available.
The Jewish calendar is full of joyous and meaningful holidays. After High Holy Days, join us for dinner in the sukkah during Sukkot and for hakafot on Simchat Torah to the music of the Tifereth Israel Ad Hoc Polyphonic Klezmer Orchestra. In December, we come together as a congregation to light our hanukkiot and in the spring, there is the raucous fun of our Purimspiel. Spend the second night of Passover at Tifereth Israel’s seder for the whole family or study late into the night for Tikun Leil Shavuot. These are only a few of the holiday celebrations that dot our calendar. All holiday programming is announced in detail in our Event Calendar.
